Gem Choices
Authors have the ability to choose the cost of individual gem choices. The prices of gem choices can be set at the following levels: 5, 8, 12, 17, 22, 28 and 35 gems. With these additional controls, authors can now base the price of their gem choices on the content they are providing their reader.
To help your reader have a great experience with your story, more than 5 gem choices per story branch will not be allowed. If more than 5 gem choices exist in any one branch of that chapter, the script will give you a warning message, and prevent you from publishing that chapter.
Our team created a guide for making the best gem choices possible, and are providing some guidance on what they find to be the best content at each level. We also have a previously written guide on how to write gem choices that add value to your stories.
These prices break down as follows:
5 Gems, 8 Gems, 12 Gems
Donacode: <GEMS:5>, <GEMS:8>, <GEMS:12>
Content recommendation for this price: supporting the author choices, minor dialogue choices, or options to buy points in stories.
17 Gems, 22 Gems
Donacode: <GEMS:17>, <GEMS:22>
Content recommendation for this price: extra content based around choices, like a bonus scene or unlocking additional content for readers to enjoy.
28 Gems, 35 Gems
Donacode: <GEMS:28>, <GEMS:35>
Content recommendation for this price: larger scale content additions, such as unlocking an additional series of scenes or a new branch that was previously locked.
If you do not add in a price, your gem choice will appear as 15 gems for all readers.
To add gem choices to your stories:
- give your choice a name (see text below in red)
- add the <GEMS:PRICE> tag (see text below in green)
If you’ve unlocked the Story Dashboard, you’ll notice that you can track how many gems your readers use on specific categories of gem choices.
Currently, you can categorize your gem choices into one of the 4 following categories by using the special choice name syntax as demonstrated:
- Support the author → author_support_NAME
- Example #1: author_support_1
- Example #2: author_support_episode1
- Bonus content → bonus_content_NAME
- Example #1: bonus_content_fact
- Example #2: bonus_content_scene
- Points → points_NAME
- Example #1: points_Max
- Example #2: points_Elena
- Oufts → outfits_NAME
- Example #1: outfits_school
- Example #2: outfits_ballgown
Any choice that doesn’t follow one of the above categories will just default into an “Other” category.
